How to Talk to Your Kids About Marijuana

When it comes to talking to your kids about marijuana, you might feel that you aren’t as prepared as you should be. Marijuana might be a very intimidating thing to you as a parent, because there is a lot of stigma that goes along with marijuana use.

In order to talk to your kids about marijuana, you should arm yourself with information and marijuana drug facts. It is a commonly abused drug in the United States. It is usually a dry, shredded green/brown mix of flowers, stems, seeds, and leaves of the hemp plant Cannabis sativa. Most of the time, it is smoked as a cigarette, which may be called a joint or a nail, and sometimes it is smoked in a pipe, which may also be called a bong. Sometimes, marijuana is smoked in blunts. These are cigars that have been emptied of tobacco and refilled with marijuana. Sometimes they are also filled with other drugs as well.

You should tell your kids that marijuana has addictive element, you can become addicted to marijuana, and a drug addiction can interfere with your life.  The main active chemical in marijuana is THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol). The way it works is that the membranes of certain nerve cells in the brain contain protein receptors that bind to the THC. Once this happens, the THC kicks off a series of reactions that ultimately lead to the high that users experience when they smoke marijuana.

Most of the time, kids are not aware that marijuana has any negative effects on your body. In reality, it does have negative effects, and it has a lot of them. Marijuana has lots of effects on the brain. When someone smokes marijuana, THC rapidly passes from the lungs into the bloodstream, which carries the chemical to organs throughout the body, including the brain. The THC in marijuana also messes with the immune system’s ability to fight disease. Marijuana is not a "fun" or "harmless" drug, marijuana can mess up your life just like any other addictive substance. When used in combination with other drugs or alcohol the effects can be increased and the dangers multiplied.

There is also research that has been done that says TCH also has the potential to cause problems in daily life or make a person's existing problems worse. Some of these problems might include depression, anxiety, and disturbances in the personality of the user. It is also true that marijuana compromises the ability to learn and remember information. Because of this, the more a person uses marijuana the more he or she is likely to fall behind in the way that their brain creates skills relating to the intellectual portions of their brain, how they get or hold down a job, or how they get social skills.

You should be able to tell your kids that their school work is going to be affected by marijuana use. When it comes to people who are in school, students that are smoking marijuana are going to get lower grades than people who do not. They are also going to be less likely to graduate from high school. Your kids are going to have problems with their attention spans, and most of the time they will have trouble registering and organizing information. Marijuana also puts the user at a higher risk of using and abusing other substances, because they are putting themselves in places that they don’t want to be. This drug has sometimes been called a gateway drug because it can lead to other forms of drug abuse.
