What is Sauna Detox?
The concept of healing and healthy fortification using water, steam and saunas (both wet and dry) is nothing earth shakingly new. History has documented use of such methods easily traceable back to Roman, Greek, Persian, Asian, East Indian and Native American (such as sweat lodges) cultures have all used practices and methods incorporating the sauna detox -steam and sweating to exude toxins and poisons out of the body tissues through pores. We do this naturally when we are hot and sweaty in the summer or when we have been working out at the gym.
The skin is the most under appreciated and overly abused organ system of the body. It is responsible for so many incredible, life sustaining functions such as fluid retention so that we do not dehydrate, immune system support by creating a barrier to keep bad things out and if we are cut or the barrier is broken it works rapidly to restore the injured tissue to keep the body alive, the skin helps to regulate our body temperature constricting and shivering in the cold to promote circulation and conserve heat and opening the pores and sweating to cool us off.
It is the outward reflection of our internal health and if a persons filtering organs like the liver cannot keep up with the processing of poisons and toxins, the skin kicks into help by releasing toxins through the pores. A good example of skin secretion is when a person consumes a great deal of garlic. You can smell it exuding from the persons pores. Properly trained massage therapists understand this idea well when they are kneading and working the body tissues. One of their main goals is to assist the body to release toxins and promote internal and external rejuvenation of the mind, body and human spirit.
The sauna-detox method has been researched as an excellent method for promoting trapped toxin and poison release from the person’s body and is especially positive if the reason for the treatment is due to drug and alcohol addiction. Unique treatment centers combine a temperate sauna that is not too dry or humid with other healthy additions like vitamins, good diet with lots of fresh vegetables, exercise, increased quality water consumption and using oils to encourage the body to exchange old poisoned fats with new and clean fats that are actually good for our health.
If repeated sauna-detox takes place, efficiency of skin elimination will increase as oxygen exchange and circulation is enhanced creating an optimal operating environment for new cell growth and/or repair. This is believed to be one of the easiest, safest and quickest ways to effectively remove chemicals and metals from the body that may cause repeated cravings for drug abuse sufferers, encourage an increased percentage in potential cancer risks from exposures to bleaches, cleaning solvents, deodorants, sun damage, chemicals in our water and so on.
Not only is sauna detoxification good for you, it feels wonderful! You can not only care for the body by cleansing the tissues, but you can clear your mind of that mental garbage that encourages IBS and ulcers. This is the perfect time to meditate or reflect on calming and peaceful thoughts and ideas that leave you feeling refreshed in all aspects with a ready to take on the world again attitude and confidence.
If you are seeking a drug rehab program, it pays to research those who include sauna detox in their treatment protocol.
